Five Northwoods Non-Profits Get Money Surprise

Five Northwood’s organizations received grants from the Wisconsin Public Service Foundation Tuesday. The  recipients were nominated by employees at WPS.
The WPS Foundation awarded $50,000  as part of the Employee Choice Grant. As WPS spokesperson Leah Van Zile reports, WPS employees nominated non-profits they felt were making a difference...

"....we had over 200 employees that nominated organizations throughout northern Wisconsin and randomly selected 50 of those organizations...."

In Eagle River, Northwoods Children's Museum Executive Director, Rouleen Gartner says their money will be used to keep things growing...

"....the money we received will go into our community garden so we can improve on our plants and the educational value in our gardens, so when kids explore they're going to have a good time and end up learning some things as well. Our community garden is open to everybody and is free at all times...."

Other recipients included the Lakeland Hawks Ice Arena in Minocqua, Northwoods Alliance For Temporary Housing--NATH--in Rhinelander, Boy Scout Venture Crew 564 in Minocqua, and the Rhinelander Basketball Association.

The non-profits were not aware of the possibility of the thousand dollar grants until they were notified they were chosen by the WPS employee nomination.
