Climate change will be the topic of the next Iron County Citizen's Forum next week in Mercer.

Organizer Terry Daulton says with the Pope's recent U.S. visit talking about climate change and an upcoming global meeting in Paris on the topic, she thought it would be a good time to talk about local impacts of weather fluctuations....

"....we're going to have a closer to home version and have a program on climate change here in the Iron County region looking at the facts of climate change as an overview but then but then opportunities and adaptations. What might it mean here at home?.."

Daulton says talking about local ramifications are important...

"....you still hear debate about it. The scientific debate is pretty well in. 97 percent of climate scientist agree that climate change is here and human caused. What we're going to do about it and how we're going to address it is still a very open ended question.;...."

A UW-Extension Professor of Community Resource Development with an emphasis on climate change, Cathy Techtmann will be one speaker. The other is Greyson Morrow, a graduate of the Air Force Academy who is talking about lowering our carbon footprint. He is active in the Citizen's Climate Lobby.

The forum will be October 13th at 6 p.m. at the Mercer Community Center. The program is free and open to the public. More information is available by contacting Terry Daulton at 715-476-3530.
