A man who skipped out on two burglary counts in Lincoln county earlier this year was sentenced to four additional years in prison by a federal judge.
24 year old Tony Hurlburt of Elmwood, Wisconsin was sentenced by U.S. District Judge James Peterson to 72 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a sawed-off shotgun. He had entered a plea last August.
This federal prison term is to run consecutively to a four-year prison term Hurlburt received in Lincoln County and will be followed by three years of supervised release.
After failing to appear in Lincoln County Circuit Court to be sentenced on two burglary counts in January 2014, Hurlburt was a fugitive for approximately two months. During that time, Hurlburt obtained a gun and sawed it off to make it easier to conceal. When arrested in Elmwood, Hurlburt was in possession of the gun, along with a small amount of methamphetamine.
Judge Peterson expressed concern regarding Hurlburt’s pattern of committing crimes with guns and said a long sentence was necessary to protect the public.
