Free Car Seat Checks Monday Could Save A Life

Air Force Reserve Command

An event Monday could save your young child from serious injury in a vehicle crash.

The Oneida County Health Department is offering car seat inspections Monday, June 11,  from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Rhinelander Fire Department located on West Frederick Street in Rhinelander.

Public Health Nurse Dawn Klink says the car checks are free....

"...we have nationally-certified car seat technicians available to check and make sure the seats are properly installed. The kids can also come and look at the fire trucks as well...."

Klink says many seats are not installed properly....

"....It is Wisconsin state law that you have your child in a properly installed car seat, booster seat, or if they're over the age of 13, then they are using their seatbelts. We can also help in the transition from one type of seat to another. Often people have questions in regards to that...."

Klink says three out of four child safety seats are not used correctly. More information is available at the website safekids.wi.org or by contacting the Oneida County Health Department at 715-369-6111.
