Fugitive Caught-Sought Statewide

Rock County Sheriff's Department

A fugitive from Janesville who sparked a nine-day nationwide manhunt is now in police custody.

Thirty-two-year old Joseph Jakubowski was captured without incident this morning in Vernon County. The Vernon County Sheriff’s Office says Jakubowski was arrested at around 6 A-M on a farmer's property near the village of Readstown. Jakubowski had been on the run since April 4th, when he broke into Armageddon Supplies in Janesville. It's believed he stole 18 guns from the store.

The F-B-I had a 20-thousand dollar reward out for his arrest. On the same day of the burglary, Jakubowski mailed a 161-page manifesto to President Donald Trump. Jakubowski referred to the government as a "gang of terrorists."

He also blamed government regulation for destroying his passion for being an artist. The Vernon County Sheriff's Office received a tip Thursday night of a suspicious person on the farmer's property. The suspicious person matched the description of Jakubowski. He had been camping in the area and refused to leave.
