Gas Price Depends Where You Are Says Analyst

en.wikipedia.org

A study by the websitegasbuddy.com found in some areas of the country, driving just a few miles could mean a wide variance in gas prices. In Wisconsin, not so much.

Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan says they found some of the widest gaps between cheaper and more expensive gas in California. He says there, motorists could save by just driving a few miles to a cheaper station. But in Wisconsin, DeHaan says prices tend to be closer...

".....generally in Wisconsin, there's not alot of discrepancy between stations, so not as much potential savings, but if you look at it that way, there's less likelihood to get ripped off, too...."

DeHaan says the variability in prices often reflects the differences in state sales tax. He says motorists going from Illinois to Wisconsin often see that. He says overall, gas prices are slowing dropping in Wisconsin. In Rhinelander, the prices were $2.43 a gallon to $2.46. He says refinery issues in early June pushed prices higher in the Midwest, but he says overall, the prices are stabilizing or dropping.
