Gas Prices Lowest Since 2009

Low and going lower...that's the word from the gas price database GasBuddy.com .

Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan says the abundant supply of gasoline has laid waste to one myth...

"....we've had gas prices plunging across the state. Prices have declined 20 to 30 cents in the past week. Goes to show that the myth about gas prices going up around the holidays is not true...."

DeHaan says there is nothing on the horizon at the moment that would signal prices to rise much, even with additional turmoil in the Middle East. Around the area, prices have dropped from the $2.30 range to around $2.09 today.

DeHaan says the laws of supply and demand are making the lower prices possible...

"....at the end of the day it's all about supply and demand. Oil inventories still very high, that's weighing on oil prices which are low and that is translating into these low gas prices...."

Statewide, the average price is $1.97, with a low of $1.77 In the area, prices have dropped from the $2.30 a gallon range just a few days ago to $2.09 today, according to the website. DeHaan says these prices haven't been seen since 2009. More information is at gasbuddy.com
