Gas Prices Rising Here After Problems At Illinois Refineries

It looks like our gas prices are going to stay above the prices paid in much of the rest of the country.

That word from a leading gas price watchdog website, gas buddy dot com While prices have remained lower than they were several years ago, prices shot up prior to the Christmas holiday.

Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan says some regional refinery issues are to blame....

"....The Exxon-Mobil refinery in Joliet, Illinois, just outside of Chicago, suffered some unexpected issues about a week and a half ago that is resulting in the normal production of gasoline. At the same time, there's a problem at Marathon's refinery down in Robinson, Illinois. Both of those refineries supply the region with gasoline. With those refineries down at this time of the year the wholesale price of gasoline shot up. It might be months before the Exxon-Mobil refinery is fully repaired...."

The Wisconsin average is $2.43 a gallon. DeHaan says much of the rest of the country saw gas prices decline. He says outside the Great Lakes region the prices continue to slowly fall.

He says there's not much in the international news to sway the price of oil, with a barrel of crude at $58 dollars...

"we're not doing too bad when you look at the price of oil closing in on $59(a barrel of crude) and the price of gasoline just about 12 cents a gallon higher than where it was last year. Still doing relatively good with low prices continuing...."

In the Northwoods, gas prices include $2.54 in Rhinelander, $2.49 in Manitowish Waters and Crandon according to Gasbuddy. com
