Get Rid Of Unwanted Meds Free of Charge

en.wikipedia.org

Saturday is the day for you to anonymously dispose of unwanted medications at no charge.

In Oneida county, Rhinelander and Minocqua Police Departments are participating, and collections will also occur at the Three Lakes Town Hall and at the Oneida County Landfill west of Rhinelander.

Solid Waste  Superintendent Brian Dutcher says people can bring in unneeded meds from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at those locations and dispose of them at no charge...

"...we can take any type of cough medicines, syrups, that type of thing and any types of pills. We cannot take any syringes, medical waste or inhalants...."

Dutcher says the service is anonymous and no questions are asked. He says another factor is environmental, as people often flush the unused meds down the toilet which eventually seeps back in the the water.

Rhinelander Police also offer an dropbox weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. In Forest County, there's dropbox at the sheriff's office that is always available. Dropoffs are also available at the Lac du Flambeau Police Department, and Eagle River Police.

For more information, contact your local county sheriff's department or local police department or the Oneida County Landfill. The state Department of Justice has several webpages dedicated to drug take back. A link is here.
