GOP Reaction To Feingold Statements In Rhinelander

Reaction continues to come in to comments made by U.S. Senate candidate Russ Feingold during a stop Saturday in Rhinelander.

During a Q & A time with reporters, Feingold said he was out of office when the allegations of alleged prescription drug abuse were  made by a whistleblower at the Veterans Administration office in Tomah were made. His campaign office later clarified his statement. A dark money group made allegations in broadcast ads that Feingold had been notified by 2009 of a problem.

This week the Republican Party of Wisconsin issued a statement: “Senator Feingold can run all the misleading campaign ads he wants but the facts show he failed to take action in the tragic situation at the Tomah VA,” said Pat Garrett, spokesman, Republican Party of Wisconsin. “Now, Senator Feingold will do whatever it takes to protect his political career, even if that means attacking the accounts of a whistleblower who spoke out against the tragedies that occurred in Tomah.”

Feingold also said that incumbent Ron Johnson, who defeated Feingold in 2010, voted against several bills to help veterans.
