Heal Creek Compromise Goes To County Board Next Week

WXPR news(Natalie Jablonski)

Should the Oneida County Board agree next week, a compromise has been reached concerning the Heal Creek property west of Rhinelander.

The county originally wanted to build a state-of-the-art light industrial park on the property next to the Northwood Golf Course on Rhinelander's far west side. Nothing  developed, and the county put the property up for sale. Two groups bid, the Hodag Sports Club with two offers, and another offer from the town of Crescent and city of Rhinelander.

With the help of the Northwoods Land Trust, the parties agreed to largely split the land. The Sports Club agreed to allow the Land Trust to set up conservation easements for recreational uses. The city offered $60,000 for 62 acres and Hodag Sports Club offered $82,000 for 80 acres.

Rhinelander City Administrator Blaine Oborn says the plan gives each group what it wants....

"....a compromise agreement where we all win and we all accomplish our goals here. More importantly, the community wins as a whole here by having the (recreational) trails in place and having a buffer for the Hodag Sports Club..."

The Oneida County Board meets next Tuesday.
