Heating Assistance Money Still Available

As winter drags on, Wisconsin Public Service reminds customers that heating assistance money is still available.

Leah Van Zile from Wisconsin Public Service says many low income people are  feeling the  pinch of a record-setting cold winter....

"....low income heating assistance dollars are still available in all of the counties in our area, so we really encourage folks to apply for those dollars if they haven't already. For those that are income-eligible that can really help offset some of the high winter heating costs...."

Van Zile says right now is the best time for people who have fallen behind with their heating bills to make arrangements with WPS...

"...if you haven't made arrangements...if you have a past-due balance,(make arrangements) now and perhaps if you haven't applied for energy assistance, just a reminder that those dollars are still available...."

Wisconsin has a moratorium on utility disconnections between November and April. Van Zile says customers should contact WPS if they have questions. More information is available on energy assistance through county Social Services offices.
