Heavy Metal Tour Stops At Nicolet College

Nicolet College

Careers in manufacturing were the focus for about 600 Northwoods  8th graders at the 3rd Annual Heavy Metal Tour Wednesday, at Nicolet College in Rhinelander. While the name implies a style of music, it's a twist on the idea of manufacturing as a career.

Teri Phalin is PK-16 Admissions coordinator at Nicolet and event coordinator. She says the goal is to give younger students an idea where they want to go with a career...

"...the reason we're looking at the 8th grade population is they're making decisions based on what courses to take next year when they're going to be high school students and this really opens their eyes to find out and give them some options of what's out there and maybe what interests them and whether they would want to take a technical education course when they enter high school...."

Among the many students were Gabby and Aubrey from Three Lakes who talked to WXPR's Ken Krall....

All events were created in partnership with the area manufacturers , the Grow North Regional Economic Development Corporation, and the North Central Wisconsin Workforce Development Board.
