Off-Highway Motorcycle Bill Proposed

www.singletrackponderosalodge.com

Next month the state Assembly will consider a bill to create an Off-Road Motorcycle Program.

Authored by Representative Jeff Mursau of Crivitz, the bill creates requirements for the off-highway motorcycle trails that are similar to ATV rules.

Mursau says there are more of the off-road motorcycles and a limited number of designated trails for them in the state. He says enthusiasts are going to other states to follow the trails. He says they aren't like an ATV trail...

"....as you look at these trails through the woods, they're like a deer path. You can't sometimes see the trail. It's not a trail you speed down, it's more of an obstacle course. They go between trees. Those trees are only a certain width apart and you have to be fairly steady to do that...."

Mursau's bill requires the DNR to develop and supervise the Off-Highway Motorcycle Program, like the ATV program. The bill passed committee this week on a bipartisan vote and will go to the full Assembly when they reconvene next month.
