Hodags Auctioned And Pumpkins Aglow Saturday

downtownrhinelander.com

The principal fundraiser to aid downtown Rhinelander is being held Saturday night and the downtown will also be aglow.

The fundraiser is an adult Halloween Costume party and auction, earning the moniker this year the "Haunted Hodag Howl".

Downtown Rhinelander, Inc.'s Maggie Steffen says the event auctions off Hodag replicas that are seen around the community. But this year, the mythical beast is smaller and there's more of them...

?

"....in the past we had the large Hodags and they were sponsored for a good size of money because they're expensive to make. This year we decided to make it more affordable for both sponsors and for people to purchase so we made them smaller, so it allowed people (who didn't have the room) to paint the Hodags..."

Artists add a touch of creativity to the replicas. Five "mini-Hodags" will be auctioned and five others will be displayed elsewhere.

The fundraiser-costume party is Saturday at the Quality Inn on Kemp Street in Rhinelander beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Also Saturday evening at the Green Space next to Trig's in downtown Rhinelander is the Halloween Pumpkin Glow. Groups and individuals are carving pumpkins to glow into the evening.

Joan Belongia says more than 100 pumpkins will be displayed after 5:30 p.m....

?

"....a lot of individuals will be bringing pumpkins in(Saturday)...any individual can bring in a carved pumpkin and have their name put in for a drawing. We're also having a decorating pumpkin carving contest, where we will pick three winners from that...."

More information on both events is available at the Downtown Rhinelander website.
