Homeless Count to Take Place in Forest, Langlade, Oneida and Vilas

commons.wikimedia.org

The Northern Wisconsin Initiative to Stop Homelessness Continuum of Care is partnering with coalitions around the state to complete a homelessness count the night of January 27. The count will cover Forest, Langlade, Oneida and Vilas counties. Volunteer Lori Hallas says staff and volunteers will count persons in shelters, streets, under bridges or similar places not meant for human habitation.

“…we will be able to do a service based count as well. If someone is homeless on Wednesday we can capture that on Thursday or Friday. We can do a survey, provide that info and resources to that individual and family as well.”

Hallas says the service based count will be completed Thursday, January 28 until the end of the business day Friday. She says the collected data will assist the community in understanding the scope and size of local homelessness, engage programs and service development and help with future state and federal funding.

The event will be at the Northern Advantage Job Center. Members of the N*WISH will have outreach booths providing information about homelessness in the community and the resources available.
