Humans and Canines to Race in 5K Saturday

You might see an unusual number of people walking and running with their dogs in Minocqua this weekend.

The Oneida County Humane Society hopes to rally support for cats and dogs in need of adoption…with a run-walk event.

And Vice President Maggie Hogan says the Jog for the Dogs 5K isn’t just for humans.

“Runners are encouraged to run with their dogs…or walk. But that’s obviously not necessary, if you don’t have a canine companion you can just come out and run or walk yourself.”

Hogan say the event aims to raise funds to help keep the shelter going…and keep the dozens of animals there in good care.

“We try to make the life of the dogs and cats and any other animals that are at the humane society a little bit better until they can find their forever home.”

The Oneida County Humane Society hosts up to 90 cats, plus 20 dogs.  Hogan says right now they’re at full capacity, with new surrenders coming in almost daily.

She hopes this weekend’s event will spur a few adoptions as well as raise funds.

Jog for the Dogs is Saturday morning…starting at the Minocqua Park on Highway 70.
