Ice Near Dams Dangerously Thin

commons.wikimedia.org

As cold as it's been lately, it's hard to think about dangerously thin ice, but Wisconsin Public Service officials are saying near dams, it's true.

Leah Van Zile from Wisconsin Public Service says because water is running underneath the ice, the potential exists for thin and dangerous ice near hydroelectric facilities...

".....we want to remind folks if they're going out and doing any ice fishing or recreational activity near our hydroelectric facilities, there most likely will be thin ice in several spots. We have ropes and barriers and warnings of thin ice, however every year we see evidence of somebody going into that zone..."

Van Zile asks everyone  to respect safety barriers.... These warnings are for areas above and below the dams, as well as at adjacent reservoirs and river channels.
