Incumbents Face Tests In Upcoming Votes

Wednesday was the filing deadline for political and county offices in Wisconsin.

The 7th Congressional District race finds four people seeking the post held by incumbent Republican Sean Duffy. Duffy will have a Republican challenger in the primary from Donald Raihala of Superior. Two Democrats, Joel Lewis of Wausau and Mary Hoeft of Rice Lake will face off in the primary in August. Libertarian Robert Burke of Hudson also filed. In the 12th State Senate District, Democrat Bryan Van Stippen is challenging incumbent Republican Tom Tiffany.

In the 34th Assembly District, two Democrats, Matthew Michalsen of Lake Tomahawk and Lawrence Dale of Eagle River will face off in the primary for the right to challenge incumbent Republican Rob Swearingen.

In the 35th Assembly District, three Democrats from Merrill, Erik Phantz, Derrick Woellner and Renea Frederick was face a primary vote to challenge incumbent Republican Mary Czaja.

36th Assembly Republican incumbent Jeff Mursau is unopposed.

In area District Attorney races, two Republican candidates filed for Langlade county. Thomas Roley of Bryant and Elizabeth Constable of Elcho.

Three candidates filed in Iron county for the vacant DA's post, Democrats, Elaine Erickson and Anthony Stella and Republican Matthew Tingstad.

In Lincoln county, two Democrats, Sidney Brubacher of Wausau and Galen Bayne-Allison of Lake Tomahawk filed. In Vilas county, Corporation Counsel Martha Milanowski of Eagle River and Derek Dominguez of Eau Claire filed. Long time incumbent Al Moustakis did not file for reelection.

There's a smattering of contested races for county positions across the Northwoods. The partisan primary is August 9.
