Governor Scott Walker announced today a broadband expansion grant of nearly 42,000 dollars was awarded to Iron County to improve their wireless broadband accessibility.  UW Extension Community Resource Development Educator Will Andreasen says the grant money will bring the infrastructure to three existing towers in northern Iron County and serve nearly 4,500 people, 2,200 households and 30 businesses.

“…we will be bringing fixed wireless technology to those three towers, so those areas will now have either much improved internet access or they’ll  have internet access for the first time.”

Andreasen says the total cost of the broadband project is nearly 78,000 dollars, and expects the installation process to begin late next spring.

Walker will make the broadband expansion grant announcement in Hurley tomorrow.
