JEM Grant To Aid Minocqua "No Frills" Marathon

Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce

The Department of Tourism is helping Minocqua to promote a fall running event that is growing.

Department of Tourism spokesperson Kristina LeVan describes the event...

"......the "No Frills Marathon" is put on by the Minocqua area Chamber of Commerce and they're expanding their marathon to include a half-marathon component this year, in the hope of attracting even a larger group of runners to the event.."

The "No Frills Marathon" is set for September 10 and is one of the last qualifiers for the Boston Marathon.

LeVan says the Joint Effort Marketing grant of $8,000 will be used to promote the shorter run in certain markets...

".....that assists with marketing for events. In this case, the money will go towards promoting this new half-marathon component and we're also spreading the word about other new elements of the event as well...."

Event organizers hope to have more than 700 runners involved in the event, which would bring in more than $115,000 in visitor spending. Joint Effort Marketing grants are available to non-profit organizations for the promotion of Wisconsin tourism events and destination.

59 JEM grants were awarded last year, totaling more than $1.1 million in spending to attract visitors.
