Jones Found Guilty of Attempted Homicide

Forest County Sheriff's Dept.

A Wabeno man has been found guilty of three counts, including  attempted first degree homicide.

The jury got the case during the noon hour Friday in the case of 46 year old Raymond Jones,  charged with beating a man for two days then leaving him in the woods near Crandon to be eaten by wolves. They returned a verdict two hours later.

Jones was arrested in March of 2014 along with three others. Steven Roberts was found along a trail  by ATV'ers frostbitten and beaten.

The trial has gone on for three days with the prosecution saying Jones was mainly responsible for Roberts beating. During closing arguments, District Attorney Charles Simino said Roberts was lucky to be alive...

"....beat so many times he can't remember the count..."

Defense Attorney Brian Bennett said Jones just got in over his head in a bad situation....

"....not some murderous individual. Just some hapless, aimless, individual who stumbled into this and blew something out of proportion..."

Seven men and five women are in the final jury.

A key witness, Justin Bey and Jones will both be sentenced for their roles in the felonies on August 11.
