Journey's Marathon Brings Thousands To The Northwoods

wxpr

The promising forecast and the 19th  Journeys marathon Saturday in Eagle River has local businesses gearing up for visitors.

Race director Ashley Schwartz says this year’s attendance looks to be record-breaking. Last year nearly 1100 runners and walkers  from 10 states competed at Journeys.  The event includes  a marathon, half-marathon, power walk and 5 K events. Schwartz points out how many of the participants from out of town stay, eat, and shop in town after the event...

“Those are ways that the early bird event kind of gets the town moving a little earlier than Memorial Day would’ve.”

Runners, walkers, and bystanders alike are invited to a Friday night kickoff event. The Health and Wellness Expo will be held at the Northland Pines High School and includes free yoga classes, an all-you-can eat spaghetti dinner, and raffles from local businesses.
