Journeys Marathon Friday and Saturday in Eagle River

Eagle River Chamber of Commerce

The Northwoods will be filled with participants and viewers as the 20th Journeys Marathon travels across Vilas county this weekend.

Patti Gill from the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center says they're hoping for 1,200 registrants this year. The full marathon course begins near Boulder Junction and makes its way southeast along Cty K down county roads and city streets until it finishes in Riverview Park in Eagle River. There is also a half-marathon run, and a 13 K power walk. Other race events are also being held.

Gill says says they're  hoping to break another participation record...

".....we're hoping to break last year's record of over 1,100, we're shooting for 1,200 this year, so with that in mind you have runners coming from all over and they are bringing family and friends. I would say about 3,000 people come..."

Gill says they could still use some volunteer help.

".....right now we're looking for water station people, we're two water stations short. If somebody wants to help out we can put you with a group and get that taken care of. Those(events) start at 9:15 and they end when the last racer runs through...."

Registration is possible Friday night at Northland Pines High School where there's a spaghetti feed from 5-8 p.m. along with a health and wellness expo. Registration is also available on Saturday morning. For more information, go to the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce website at eagleriver. org
