Kids Get Look At Career On Wheels

WXPR

Students got a close up look at a possible career Thursday morning in Rhinelander. The annual "Careers On Wheels" was held in a city of Rhinelander downtown parking lot. There were logging trucks and logging equipment,  street sweepers, utility vehicles and other machines with children around them talking to workers who operate the machine.

Rhinelander School District spokesperson Mike Cheslock says the day is designed to give young people a close up look at jobs involving transportation....

"....a lot of kids, you ask them what they want to do and 'I want to be a professional athlete'. There's a lot of things out there. Our job is to explain to them what the opportunities are, and it's also one of the state academic standards is career exploration..."

More than 100 students from Nativity and Zion schools third through fifth grades participated this year. Last year the event was held at Central school's parking lot.
