Lake Association To Hear About Shoreland Zoning Moves

commons.wikimedia.org

When Governor Walker signed the last budget in took away from counties the ability to set stricter regulatory limits on shoreland zoning than DNR rules.

Proponents said it gave uniformity to shoreland protections statewide, rather than each county setting rules and gave more property rights to shoreland homeowners. Opponents said it was a threat to water quality with the potential for more density of dwellings on lakes.

Since that time, a movement has begun to see if those provisions could be changed. One of the people advocating for a change will speak at an upcoming Vilas County Lake Homeowner's Association meeting. John Richter of Plum Lake is a leader of Wisconsin Shoreland Initiative.

Jeff Currie of  the Nelson Lake Homeowners Association says says they're opening up their annual lake association meeting to the public to hear more information...

".....we wanted to open that up to the public as we know what John and Wisconsin Shoreland Initiative has been working on is trying to address the loss of local control for shoreland protection...."

WSI members include more than 70 lake associations. The Nelson Lake Homeowners annual meeting is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Highway 70 west in Eagle River
