Lakeland Airport Gets Money To Fix Runway

en.wikipedia.org

The state has awarded nearly $195,000 to rehabilitate Runway 18/36 at Lakeland Noble F. Lee Airport in Arbor Vitae. DOT engineer Matt Messina says the runway needed repairs...

"....it was a microsurface project. Microsurface is a surface course that goes over the existing runway to seal it and protect the entire pavement...."

He says this provides a complete seal over the existing asphalt, preventing water damage and extending the life of the pavement...

"....the expansion and contraction joints on the pavement, they open up in places on older pavements and they leave pretty wide, about 6 inch cracks in some of the spots pilots were complaining about...."

That runway is 5,150 feet long by 100 feet wide. The Federal Aviation Administration contributed $175,000, and the state provided $9,700 dollars and towns of Woodruff, Minocqua, Arbor Vitae and Lac du Flambeau provided nearly $9,800.
