Land O' Lakes Woman Wins Contest, National Publicity
A Northwoods woman recently won a national contest to come up with the next great potato chip. Karen Weber-Mendham of Land O’Lakes won a million dollars in the "Do Us a Flavor" contest put on since by Lay’s Potato Chips. She created a Cheesy Garlic Bread chip that was one of three finalists chosen from around three-point-eight million entries. . Actress Eva Longoria presented the prize during a recent ceremony..
Karen says she was surprised to be picked. Her children had suggested the flavor, she entered and then found out she was a finalist...
"....they called us, I believe it was the beginning of November, so by that time I didn't even remember I'd entered this. Like I said it is not something I do, I'm not really a 'foodie' or anything, I don't look for contests to enter..."
She was whisked away first to Lay's headquarters in Dallas, then to Los Angeles where she was given the top prize at Eva Longoria's restaurant. Then she was exposed to the lifestyle of the famous as she and Longoria walked outside to the waiting papparazzi...
"....it was a huge event. They put out a mini-red carpet, they closed off a side street, had papparazzi there. It was quite a shindig...."
Karen says she was jetted after the ceremony to New York where she answered five hours of questions from the media, then came back to Land O' Lakes where she went back to work at the library the next day.
