Langlade County Springs Not On State List For Sale

en.wikipedia.org

The state Natural Resources Board later this month will consider recommendations from the DNR on more than 100 properties that have been put up for sale. But the sale of parcels in Langlade county considered the headwaters of some prime trout fishing waters are not included in the sale.

In June, the DNR released a list of 128 parcels in 37 counties, approximately 5,300 acres that were under reviewby field staff for possible sale. In August they released an additional 26 parcels.

Final department recommendations include 93 parcels, totaling approximately 3,559 acres to be offered for sale DNR Facilities and Lands Bureau director Terry Bay says the final recommendation finds the DNR keeping the parcels in Langlade county....

"the parcels(Langlade Co.) were reviewed within the field and with all the other interests in the property, there could be a multitude of reasons, but the determination was made to retain the property..."

Along with the Langlade county land, various parcels in Vilas, Oneida, Lincoln also are either being retained by the state or for sale. Recommendations regarding each of these parcels can be found at dnr.wi.gov, keywords "land sales."

The legislature directed the Natural Resources Board to offer 10,000 acres of land for sale by June 30, 2017 - proceeds from these land sales to repay outstanding public debt related to the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship program. The department currently owns approximately 1.5 million acres in fee title ownership and 300,267 acres in easements. The sale of 10,000 acres represents less than one percent of the department's total land ownership.
