A large emergency response on Rhinelander's west side Friday evening turned out to be a false alarm.

A call to a dispatch center for emergency medical help by a man in his 60's was received but information given indicated someone had been injured by a gunshot and a person being held hostage in the home. The man's house is off Davenport Street near Sanns Street.

Police officials reported after a large emergency response, including the Marathon/Oneida county bomb squad, that it was a false alarm.

Reports say a person was transported to medical aid, and officials said the man had a medical condition. No injuries were reported and police discovered no one was held hostage. The situation was over about 10 p.m.
