Legislators Call For Great Lakes Wolf Summit

en.wikipedia.org

State Senator Tom Tiffany and Representative Adam Jarchow have announced plans to host a Great Lakes Wolf Summit. The summit comes on the heels of last week’s wolf depredation in Shawano County. Tiffany says there has been 14 confirmed wolf depredation events this year alone and says it’s time to have federal action return management to the states. He says management practices would be similar to previous years…

“…it would be similar to the wolf hunt we had for two years before the judge out in Washington DC said we could no longer manage wolves. I think we had a successful hunt and it should be up to the DNR and the people of Wisconsin to manage the wolf population…”

Tiffany says he wants to send a clear, grassroots message that it is “irresponsible to ignore the issue any longer.”

Public officials, scientists and representatives from Michigan and Minnesota will be attending the summit in September. The summit will be open to the public.

Tiffany says a time, location and date have not been set. He invites anyone with questions to call his office (608) 266-2509.
