The Wisconsin Let’s Get to Work Project is celebrating their success. as their five year run comes to an end.

The project was funded by a national grant to raise overall employment outcomes of high school students with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Project Director Jenny Neugart says by the end of the project, 89% of students were able to find paid jobs in their community.

“It was really a celebration of the work the schools had done. They worked with us for three years.. Received some funding, but most of all they received coaching on how to work with students on employment skills, working with employers, actually reaching out in the community to get the job. So they received a lot of training and they took on a lot of extra work as part of this grant which is really difficult in addition to all the new things they’re doing as teachers. “

Neugart says schools tripled employment rates of disabled students in their community within the first year of the project.

She says although the project has come to an end, they’re continuing their work to keep kids engaged in the classroom and around the community.
