Letters Of Support Asked For Rhinelander Forestry Application

Wisconsin DNR

The legislature will decide in a few months whether it is viable to move the DNR's Division of Forestry out of Madison to a northern community closer to the state's large forests.

Rhinelander, Wausau and Hayward have been identified as finalists should the move be approved in the upcoming budget.

Executive Director of Oneida County Economic Development Corporation Roger Luce is asking Oneida county residents to support Rhinelander's application. Luce says the group supported both Minocqua and Rhinelander's initial application before Rhinelander was named a finalist.

He says he's hoping residents of what he calls the 'greater community' support Rhinelander's application....

"....so if there's people in Vilas county, Florence county, Forest county, anyone in Oneida county, we are reaching out to the citizens and businesses to write letters of support for the city of Rhinelander for the place for the relocation to occur...."

Luce says locating an office here would boost the region's economy....

".....the (DNR) is saying initially between 40 and 50 jobs would be positioned in whatever community they choose if they decide to make the move. For Rhinelander that would be a huge move economically...."

Luce says the DNR is accepting support letters until 4:00 p.m. August 5th. More information on the support campaign is on the Oneida County Economic Development Corporationwebsite.
