Lewis Sentenced To Four Years In Prison

Oneida Co. Sheriff's Department

A Vilas county man will spend four years in prison for his role in the heroin death of a Rhinelander-area man in 2012.

28 year old Richard Lewis and co-defendant Jennifer Heiting , also of St. Germain, were arrested after the December, 2012 death of David Stahl. Stahl was found dead in a house in the town of Crescent from an overdose. A few weeks later Lewis and Heiting were arrested. Lewis pled guilty to First-Degree Reckless Homicide and drug delivery.

Oneida County D.A. Michael Schiek said the pair had the drugs shipped north to save time. He said Lewis' addiction led to others being hurt...

?

"...it starts out as one(user) and the public is at risk here because it's contagious. What starts out as one..two..three...four. If something like this hadn't happened, I don't know where it would have stopped....."

Lewis told Judge Patrick O'Melia that he apologized to Stahl's family. He said he wanted to use his arrest as a chance to turn himself around and cautioned other drug users...

?

"...to anyone else still using drugs, there is hope. You can stop before you end up injuring somebody like I did..."

In addition to the four year sentence, Lewis was sentenced to 7 years supervision and probation after release. Heiting was also sentenced to four years in prison for Stahl's death.
