Lincoln County Observing Safety Awareness Day For Worker

kruegerfamilyfuneral.com

Lincoln county has noted the one year anniversary of one of its workers killed while working a road construction site.

Lincoln County Highway Commissioner Kelly Reith talks about Marcus Wydeven Work Zone Safety Awareness Day....

"....he was tragically killed in an accident one year ago on July 14, 2015 while working on a road construction project on Highway 17. Marcus was a flagger who moved traffic around the construction zone...."

Reith says Wydeven's death is a reminder to all motorists that people are working very close to where you're vehicle is traveling...

"...work zone safety is every driver's responsibility. You should slow down, stay alert to changing traffic speeds and patterns. If possible on two-land roadways you should move over to the next lane to create an additional safety zone.."

Wydeven was a 20 year member of the highway department.

On average, there's approximately 1,600 accidents, 720 serious injuries and eight fatalities in work zones around the state each year.
