MINOCQUA – Lakeland Union High School’s three-year experiment with a combined principal and district administrator post is apparently over.

After a closed session Monday, the school board voted to offer Principal/District Administrator Jim Bouché a modified contract as part-time district administrator only.

Bouché’s current 2-year contract ends June 30, 2018. The board wants a full-time principal back in place, a school board member later said. The motion was to “direct the board president to work with the district’s legal counsel and Mr. Bouché to modify his 2018-2020 contract to a part-time district administrator contract.”

Board president Ed Schaub announced the board’s unanimous action, suggesting that the full-time principal could come from current staff. The district administrator part-time position could range from 50 percent to 60 percent, according to one source.

The board gave then Principal Bouché the district administrator duties for the 2015-16 school year after District Administrator Todd Kleinhaus resigned June 20, 2015 following the board’s displeasure with his actions at an all-staff Christmas party at a local restaurant.

Currently, Bouché’s annual salary and benefit package is $89,000 for each position, for a total of $178,000. In the 2014-15 school year when he was full-time principal, Bouche received $154,000 in salary and benefits and Kleinhaus received $177,000 in salary and benefits.

The board will act on a final contract offer, including a proposed salary, at next Monday’s regular board meeting.
