LWVNW To Host Local Candidate Forums In March

Max Pixel FreeGreatPicture.com

Prior to a busy Wisconsin spring election, the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods is hosting forums for area political races.

The first forum is Tuesday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the Budeingen Training Center in Tomahawk involving the candates for Lincoln County Board.

League spokesperson Debra Durchslag tells us the format...

"...each candidate will be asked to make a brief 90 second introduction, who they are, why they're running for Lincoln County Board, what they will bring to the board and what they believe are the most important issues facing the county today. After opening statements, audience questions will be asked by the moderator...."

March 20, a similiar forum will be held for Oneida County Board candidates at James Williams Middle School in Rhinelander March 20 at 6:30 p.m. Moderator for both forums will be WJFW TV's Ben Meyer.

Durchslag says there has been a good response from both county board races...

"...I believe we have 12 candidates attending both of those forums...."

In between the two county board forums, the Rhinelander High School Kiwanis Club and Social Studies Department along with the League will host a school board candidates forum on March 15. They are also hosting forums for Merrill mayor and city clerks races on March 26.

Durchslag says the non-partisan events are designed to provide the public the opportunity to develop educated opinions on positions taken by local candidates.

More information is available at the League's website at lwvnow.org

WXPR is also hosting a Rhinelander mayor forum involving all three announced candidates. That forum will be on the air March 22 at 5:00 p.m. We'll have more details on that forum coming up this week.
