Meeting Wednesday To Discuss Heal Creek, Recreation Options

Natalie Jablonski

Outdoor recreation with a focus on the Heal Creek property on Rhinelander's far west side will be discussed Wednesday afternoon with public input sought.

Joel Knutson was instrumental in striking a compromise deal that led to the Hodag Sports Club and the city of Rhinelander splitting the 272 acre parcel next to Northwood Golf Course.

Knutson says he called the meeting to give the public an update on progress on Heal Creek and other properties...

"....the overall layout of community trails, what's on tap for this winter, and where we are with various projects around the community. The golf course is certainly a big one, but there's a lot of other things going on...the county forests, the school forests...."

Knutson says he's hoping to hear from the public about what they would like to see for outdoor recreation...

"....I want to give people an update and begin the community conversation about what direction we want to be able to go as a community. What sort of amenities, activities we like to see as plans go forward...."

Oneida County abandoned plans for a light industrial park on the land next to the city-owned Northwood Golf Course on Rhinelander's far west side.

The Hodag Sports Club and the city of Rhinelander group reached a compromise on the 272 acre site, with the portion near the golf course to be developed for trails.

The meeting is set for 4:30 p.m. at the Rhinelander District Library meeting room.
