Michigan Woman Sentenced For Northwoods IRS Probe

A Michigan woman will spend time in prison for filing a false 2008 tax return. But more than a million dollars are in question.

63 year old Rebecca Hoff of Ironwood was sentenced in federal court in Madison Wednesday to 15 months in prison.

Officials say Hoff was working for the T.A. Solberg company in Minocqua as a bookkeeper between 2004 and 2010. She admitted taking company money to pay off many personal expenses. IRS calculations found the money to be $1.1 million over those years. Although T.A. Solberg company did not pursue charges, she never declared the money she embezzled as income, owing more than $300,000 in taxes. Hoff had entered a guilty plea in December to the charges filed by the IRS.
