Minocqua Police Offer Citizens Academy For Second Year

Minocqua Police Department

Minocqua residents have a chance to experience what it's like to be a police officer on the town department.

The 2nd Annual Citizens Academy is enrolling town residents for an eight-week course beginning in late March. Minocqua Police Officer Daniel Littleton says students are taught basic firearms use, tactics used for defense and arrest, crime sence investigation and other daily work protocols...

"....doing traffic stops, one night will be OWI, A couple volunteers come in where we dose them to a certain(blood alcohol level) so students in the academy can run each of these people through our field sobriety tests...."

Littleton says the program is designed to bring a closer relationship between the community and law enforcement....

".....I think the closer we work with the people in our community the safer it makes our community because then they're willing to talk to us. They can put a name to the badge and get to know us as well...."

The Citizens Academy will be held every Tuesday evening beginning Mach 29 through May 17. Applications are on the Minocqua Police Department website or call the department for more information.
