A Minocqua seventh-grader fell short Wednesday of winning one of the top two spots in the National Geographic Bee.
13-year-old Asha Jain was among 10 finalists competing in Washington. The winner was 12-year-old Sathwik Karnik of Plainville Massachusetts.
Asha Jain won her state competition, and then advanced after Monday’s preliminary round. Her brother Vansh had finished second in the national bee a year ago. For taking first, Sathwik won a 25-thousand-dollar college scholarship, a trip to the Galapagos Islands, and a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.
