Money Donations Better Than Food, Clothing: Red Cross

Wikimedia Commons

As now tropical storm Harvey returns to land in Louisiana, the rescue and cleanup effort continues in Houston. A Red Cross official in Wausau says if you want to help, money rather than goods is the best way to help.

Wendy Savage is the Executive Director for the North Central Red Cross chapter.

She says in a situation like Harvey, money donations are best....

"....it's best to send a financial contribution because that is something we can access quickly and we can convert to whatever is needed at the time. If you send donations such as food and clothing, it takes time to sort them and it takes away time we spend with clients...."

Savage says they have been getting donations at the Wausau office...

"...all those donations are greatly appreciated., any amounts help. This is going to be a very prolonged effort and there are thousands and thousands of people to feed and house and all those contributions are very much appreciated...."

To donate, you can go to the website redcross.org and make a donation with a credit card. You can make a contribution by text by texting to Harvey 90999 or you can mail a donation to the Wausau office at 1602 North Second Street 54403.
