More Speakers Added To Great Lakes Wolf Summit

New speakers have been added to a one-day summit on wolves called by State Senator Tom Tiffany of Hazelhurst and Representative Adam Jarchow of Balsam Lake.

Tiffany says the summit was called to try to get momentum to return management of Gray Wolves to individual states...

".....we have 26 scientists from the Great Lakes here to the federal government that said you need to delist the timber wolf, it is no longer endangered. You need state management of the wolf population. We've become a wolf sanctuary in the Great Lakes states. We're hoping to get that management back to the states...."

Two speakers have been added to the summit, including DNR Deputy Director Kurt Thiede and Marenesco, Michigan Police Chief Bruce Mahler. Also speaking are Ted Lyon, author of "The Real Wolf", David Ruid from USDA-APHIS Wildlife Services and Don Peay Founder of Sportsman for Fish and Wildlife.

The summit is set for September 15 in Cumberland, Wisconsin. More information is at greatlakeswolf summit. eventbrite. com

Gray wolves were returned to the Federal Endangered Species listing by a judge after spending several years under state management. Other wolf management analysts say the wolf has not yet recovered and is still in need of protection.
