Most StateTech School Grads Found Work: Study

A spokesperson for the state Technical College system says a survey shows most 2015 graduates found work soon after graduating from school.

Technical College System spokesperson Conor Smyth says the placement level was high...

"....93 percent of our 2015 graduates were employed within 6 months of graduation. That percentage has not gone below 86 percent for the last 17 years...."

The report is based on survey responses among more than 18,000 persons who graduated last year. Smyth says one major factor in the high placement rate is the relationship with local businesses...

"...faculty and our programs are closely linked to industry. So we have industry partners who serve on advisory committees in each of our program areas. That allows us to teach to industry standards and have some assurance that our graduates are going to be ready on day one..."

Smyth says a growing effort called Career Pathway Development includes shorter-term training where students focus on one area then return to industry. He says technology is changing the workplace so fast that current degrees will not hold up for a person's career
