A word of caution as recreationalists head out on a beautiful weekend in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.

Forest spokesperson Hilary Markin says there are many trails open for whatever your recreation, but she says slow down on motorized trails...

"....it's that time of the year when the trails are starting to get soft. We want to encourage folks to be safe out there. Especially this weekend as the trails get soft. The morning times are going to be really slippery. We've seen an increase in snowmobile accidents happening across the forest. Slow down, put safety first when you're out there, but have a good time...."

Markin also reminds Forest campers and other recreationalists that their reservation system is open...

"...so folks are starting to plan summer vacations. Our campgrounds are available up to six months in advance. We're into Labor Day right now. Folks can start reserving their favorite campsite for the weekends throughout the summer. Go on to recreation.gov and type in your favorite campground or if you want to find a new one. Search by Wisconsin, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and see what campgrounds are available. We have 26(campgrounds) available for reservation across the Forest...."
