National Forest Service to Issue Visitor Survey

en.wikipedia.org

The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest Service will begin issuing a National Visitor Use Monitoring survey this week.  Public Affairs Officer Hilary Markin says the survey will gather information about where visitors are from, the activities they engage in and which areas of the forest receive the most use.

“…each day a survey occurs on a certain place across the whole entire Nicolet National Forest, so if they happen to be at a rec. site where a survey is taking place, they’ll see signs as they drive in, and as they leave the recreation area they’ll be asked a series of questions if they’re willing to participate in the survey.”

Markin says the data collected from individual forests are combined to give regional and national estimates and descriptions of visits. She says the information will be used to tailor the forest’s recreational resources to fit the needs of visitors, while still maintaining the quality of the natural environment.
