Two  large grants have been received by the Lac du Flambeau tribe.

A nearly $391,000 Department of Justice grant will help the tribal police department with a community-oriented policing initiative...says Chief Robert Brandenburg...

"....a policing officer and a sexual assault investigator's position that's funded through the COPS office. In the past they've funded two school liaison positions. The Lac du Flambeau tribe has now taken over those positions in their funding...."

The grant is for three years. Funds will support the purchase of equipment, technology and vehicles.
This grant award was made possible through a collaboration between the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police Department, the Lac du Flambeau Planning Department and the Lac du Flambeau UW-Extension office.
The tribe has also been awarded a second Department of Justice  grant of $380,000  to aide in addressing underage drinking and juvenile arrests in Vilas County.

The award will enable the tribe to assist youth who are involved with underage drinking and related issues.  The two year grant will aide in the creation of a Youth Healing to Wellness Court, which will offer a new "doorway" that young people can pass through to receive specialized support for alcohol and other drug abuse , mental health or other issues.
