Nelson Officially Announced As Nicolet College President

Nicolet College

Nicolet College officially has a new president.

Dr. Richard Nelson has accepted the position. Nelson previously served as Provost of Paul Smith's College in New York.

Nicolet Board Chair Ron Zimmerman says the board was impressed with Dr. Nelson's ability to collaborate with faculty and staff across campus at Paul Smith’s College and his ability to recognize talent and foster the development of these individuals.

Nelson serves as the board chair of the Adirondack Economic Development Commission and other positions. He also has held positions at the University of Minnesota Crookston and has a Ph.D from Cornell University. He sees Nicolet as a great opportunity...

?

"....it's a great school as far as I can tell having spent a few days there already. I've been impressed by the friendliness and enthusiasm of all of the staff and faculty that I talked to and I really look forward to being a part of college that sees itself as such an integral asset for the entire district..."

Dr. Nelson says this is where the action is in education..

"....help young people get started on their college careers...and helping businesses prosper and grow and all the things that are central to the mission of a locally-connected community and technical college. It's the sector of higher ed where the greatest opportunity and most of the action is right now...."

Nelson was one of five candidates for the post, including current interim President Kenneth Urban. Urban will serve as interim President until Nelson begins duties on July 1.
