The new Executive Director for the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce had his first day on the job Monday.  Rhinelander native Dana DeMet says he’s busy getting up to speed on upcoming events like the Hodag Home Show.

He says one of his goals as chamber director is to help make membership a measurable benefit.

“I’m really looking forward to expanding on not only just the events that we have, but putting together some measurable results or goals. I really want to foster the true value for the chamber’s members.”

DeMet was born and raised in Rhinelander, and says the position is an opportunity to give back to his community.  He left the Northwoods in 2004 to attend school at the University of Wisconsin Madison.  He later worked with Teach for America in rural North Carolina, and most recently with a Chicago web development firm called Palantir.net.

“So what I really hope to bring to this position is a strong sense of leadership. And really professionally coming from Palantir, a good sense of new media marketing, engagement, involvement, and making sure that the Rhinelander chamber is kind of on the cutting edge of technology and maintaining relationships in new ways.”

DeMet says he recognizes the need to balance many types of business interests, as well as the seasonal challenges of Rhinelander’s economy.

The Rhinelander Area Chamber announced DeMet’s appointment late last week.
