A new place, a new time for the 29th Annual Northern National Art Competition.
The juried art exhibition had been a part of the summer time School of the Arts at Rhinelander,but with the School's demise, the event is set to open this Saturday at Nicolet College in Rhinelander. Not only has the time of year changed, but the Art Gallery at Nicolet has moved to the Northwoods Center.
Gallery Director Katy Ralph describes the competition...
"....it's a contemporary art competition nationwide so we get entries from coast-to-coast. We have pieces from New York and California and Florida and some of our local artists who were able to get in. The judge had 518 images from which to choose, and she included 86 pieces to be included....."
Katy Ralph outlines the opening reception...
"....this is a national juried competition. We're excited to have Jeanine Coupe Ryding from the Art Institute of Chicago coming as our judge. She'll be here to doing a presentation about the exhibit, Saturday, September 24. We have an opening reception at 5 o'clock...."
The competition features $8,500 in prize money awarded to the artists at the reception. Hundreds of entrants were narrowed to less than 100 exhibits at the Gallery.
Tickets for the Saturday opening reception are available at Trig's Customer Service Desk and Diane's FrameShoppe in downtown Rhinelander. Refreshments are provided. The display will be free to the public beginning Monday, September 26 and will run through November 4.
